Pete Doherty – Love Music Hate Racism

Pete Doherty – Love Music Hate Racism

Pete Doherty was the highlight of a Love Music Hate Racism gig at Stoke’s Britannia Stadium in 2009. I was part of a small crew that covered the event for LMHR and gave them some exclusive backstage interviews. The footage was released through a social media campaign that helped to raise the turnout of young people in the European elections.

The following video is a simple edit that includes a couple of minutes intro from the compère, whilst we can see Pete and Drew McConnell getting ready to go onto stage. I particularly like the apparent nervousness that you can see in Pete, and the way that it vanishes the moment he’s introduced to the crowd. Most of the video is made up of 2 handheld cameras amongst the crowd, to give the raw feeling that you get with fan’s films, but we had the audio feed from the desk, so it doesn’t sound like a fan’s film! Pete and Drew played a short set with a selection of Pete’s solo work and tunes from Babyshambles and The Libertines.

If you want to skip straight to the music, What A Waster starts at 2’20”, with a segue into Last of The English Roses at 5’00”. Albion begins at 10’30” with Time For Heroes at 15’10”.
